This particular turtle is actually a tortoise. What's the difference between a turtle and a tortoise? It depends somewhat on which country you live in, but generally tortoises are turtles that don't swim and never go into the water except to drink. I think that this tortoise toy is based on the giant land tortoise from the Galapagos islands. Although it does seem awfully green...
