Porcelain Hatching Black Sea Turtle
Truly adorable, isn't it?

But, did you know that the Black Sea Turtle is an endangered species? Their biggest threat is from poaching for their hides and getting caught in shrimp trawls. Scientists estimate the population to be between 5 and 10 thousand individuals at the current time.

Here's a piece of interesting information, though. The sex of the hatchlings depends upon the temperature of the nest. If the temperature of the nest is consistently below 27.1 degree Celcius, all of the hatchlings will be male. If the temperature stays above 31 degree Celcius, all of the hatchlings will be female. Cool, huh?

I wish I could say that buying this hand-painted porcelain replica of a hatchling would help save the species, but... Well, maybe it can! Just place it in a really prominent location and when people comment on how cute it is, you can tell them all about it and encourage them to donate their time or money to help save the turtles!

Size: About 1.5" long and .75" tall.
